Six Mile Slough
The Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve - Fort Myers
The Six Mile Cypress Slough is a 2,500 acre wetland that measures approximately 9 miles long and 1/3 mile wide. This linear ecosystem is home to a diverse population of plants and animals, including a few considered to be endangered. The Slough also serves as a corridor for wildlife by providing a safe route of travel. It has a boardwalk trail and observation decks for visitors, where you can spy wild turkeys, blue jay, herons and woodpeckers as well as a variety of other wildlife. Other visitors include bobcats, raccoons, deer and squirrel.

Ding Darling
J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge – Sanibel Island
There is a five-mile wildlife drive as well as hiking and canoe trails. The refuge claims to be host for over 300 bird species, 50 types of reptile and 30 different types of mammals. Stop by the visitor's center for maps and current sightings.

Estero Bay
Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve – Estero
This is one of the most productive estuaries in Florida. The bay is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including the bald eagle. The preserve protects the water, inlets, and islands along 10 miles of Estero Bay. Visitors can canoe or kayak in the bay or on the Estero River. Miles of trails offer visitors the opportunity to hike, bicycle, or study the variety of wildlife and native vegetation protected here. There are gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, slash pines, live oaks & plenty of birds.

Corkscrew Swamp
Corkscrew Swamp - Naples
Nearly 200 species of birds live on the preserve, earning Corkscrew an international reputation among birders. Wood storks, which are endangered, nest high in the 500-year-old cypresses from March through May. Be sure to watch for anhingas, barred owls, egrets, herons, ibis and limpkins, to name a few of the more commonly seen birds.
