BIKING... Day Trips from Southwest Florida!
DESTINATION - SOUTHWEST FLORIDA
Southwest Florida is truly a cultural destination and has the most to offer in Family Fun and Educational Activities.
Morris Bridge |
Morris Bridge - Thonotosassa
Also known as "Hole in the Fence", this riding area contains some of the more technical trails in the
Wilderness Park system. Miles & miles of premo single track, Morris Bridge is a challenging mixture of trails crossing
three distinct ecosystems. There are ‘high ground’ trails of hard packed dirt, and some sand. All with plenty of shade
from pine and scrub oak trees. Approximately 20% of the trails transverse this ecosystem, which is typical of a central
Florida forest. These trails are very scenic and are beginner and intermediate level trails.

Pinellas Trail |
Pinellas Trail - Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg
Truly one of Florida’s premier urban trails stretching from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg, linking
some of the County’s most picturesque parks, scenic coastal areas and residential neighborhoods. An average of 90,000
persons use the Trail each month. The Trail is a unique greenway corridor linking some of Pinellas County’s most
picturesque parks, scenic coastal areas and residential neighborhoods.
While traveling along the Trail, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy deep glades of ancient live oaks
trailing Spanish moss, quiet waterways and tidal streams with all varieties of land and water birds. The Trail is
a priceless haven in a busy, highly urbanized environment, where Trail-goers safely breeze along. The construction
of eight overpasses allow Trail-goers to travel above traffic at busy intersections.

Flatwoods |
Flatwoods - Thonotosassa
Most Flatwoods’ riders are familiar with the paved loop shared by road cyclists and roller-bladers,
but few know of the single-track opportunities within the park. There are several miles of rideable two-track access
roads criss-crossing within the center of the paved loop, great for a beginner. Running adjacent to these roads is a
single-track trail linking the 1800 Trail at the east end of the park, to the flood control structure located at the
far west end of the park.
All single-track is heavily shaded by oak and pine. There is also single-track and two-track towards
the back (west end) of the park. These trails, in conjunction with the above trails, are used to complete a path
through Flatwoods. This path is part of the Wilderness Loop that connects all three parks into a 14 mile continuous
loop. For those using the Bruce B. Downs parking lot, there is single and double-track linking to the Wilderness
Loop.

Van Fleet |
General James A. Van Fleet State Park- Polk City to Mabel
This rail-trail is one of Florida’s most rural. It runs through the Green Swamp, the headwaters for
some of Florida’s most canoed rivers, the Withlacoochee (South), Hillsborough, and Peace. Landscapes include the
natural environments associated with the Green Swamp, former citrus lands and cattle ranches. With only one curve in
its 29.2 miles, you can choose to go slow and view the wildlife or enjoy it at a brisk pace. The trail has excellent
wildlife viewing opportunities between Green Pond Road and Bay Lake Road.
