17 October - This Saturday morning on Edwards Island in Roberts Bay I had a
Philadelphia Vireo. Also there, Black and White, Tennessee, and Yellow-throated Warblers, E.
Wood Pewee, Indigo Buntings, and a nice pair of Am Redstarts. Tons of gnatcatchers, too.
This afternoon in North Lido Park with Rick Greenspun and Valeri Ponzo, we had a MANGROVE CUCKOO. This is a
super find for this area. We also had a nice mixed flock of migrants: Bay-breasted, Magnolia, Black-throated Green,

Scarlet and Summer Tanagers, Swainson’s Thrush, Indigo Buntings, catbirds, and a number of
calling E. Wood Pewees.

15 October - On my way home from work this evening, I was delighted to see that our
Siesta Towers Peregrine Falcon has returned. This will be the 10th season we've had a peregrine on the
Towers. She has always returned between the 10th and 15th of October and leaves for her breeding grounds between the
10th and 15th of April each year. I'd like to believe it's the same bird, but no way to know for sure. On the homefront
in northeast Sarasota, my resident Gr. Horned Owls have started their courtship calling in the early evenings and
early mornings from my pine trees.

13 October - Just Spent a couple of hot sweaty hours in Pinecraft Park today. It was
pretty slow for most of the time but I did have a couple of nice mixed flocks move through around 11 am that included:
Magnolia, Bay breasted, Hooded, Black and White, American Redstarts, and two Ovenbirds, White eyed and
Red eyed Vireos and my first Ruby crowned Kinglet this fall season. Still no thrushes. Good Birding...
